  • 2005's Womanizer is the second album from Norwegian traditional metal band Absolute Steel. Similar to their countrymen Thunderbolt, Absolute Steel plays traditional heavy metal that's influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Accept and Motorhead. Their lyrics seem more influenced by the sleazier L.A. hair metal bands though. With song titles like "High Heels and Fishnet Stockings," "Juicy Lucy" and "Deeper," you pretty much get the idea what Absolute Steel is all about. The songs that aren't about sex are about beer ("Beerrun") and partying ("Kick"). The album closes with a pair of instrumental songs that give the guys a chance to go all Yngwie on us. Those are the only songs on Womanizer that aren't likely to offend someone. The whole album is hard-hitting, fist-pumping heavy metal with lots of great shout-along choruses. The downside here is that the vocals are a bit…screechy, and tend to grate after a few songs. I guess you'd call this kind of album a guilty pleasure. It's not artsy and it's not breaking any new ground, but Womanizer rocks hard and is way fun to listen to. If you're a fan of hard partying metal bands like Widow, Skull Fist, Thunderbolt and even Airbourne and Steel Panther, you'll want to give Absolute Steel a try.
