  • Before there was Kompakt, there was Forever Sweet, a sort of techno supergroup. Their only album, GEBEN & NEHMAN, kicks off with the juicy tech-house of "Don't Speak," which definitely has the hallmarks of a Michael Mayer production (and also samples, if I'm not mistaken, ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All"). But the beats stay crisp and heavy, whether the aquatic schaffel of "True Blue" or the straightforward thump of "Kämpfer Und Tänzer." Even if the tracks don't seem to develop much ("Rave Your Arms" goes on a bit too long, I think), but the solid groove of "True Lies" shows that these tracks were meant for the floor. That's not to say that there aren't subtler touches, like the squelches on "Zart" or the gradual disco samples on "Last Minute." Better yet, the irregular thrums that start off "Super Trouper Extra" have a glitch-house feel that soon resolves into a a gentle tech-house stomper. Solid stuff, sure, but these boys would soon accomplish much more.
