  • Crazily mixed-up compilation with suitably psychedelicalised garage punk (The Deep), proto-doom metal (Macabre), real 1966-era garage (Larry & the Blue Notes) and heavy acid-rock (the 17+ minute-long Josefus).The Gathering of The Tribe people were well known for putting hippy dreck noodling on their comps for smokers to nod out to - and then putting a fast punk one at the end of each side to wake 'em up and remind 'em to flip the record over (a philosophy most fully realised on Vol. 3, The Valley Of The Son Of The Gathering Of The Tribe).Like a lot of the early 80s compilations the sound quality is a bit weird (even worse on the cd boxset imo), but I have fondness for these comps. Wayward sounds for wayward people.
